Sandwich covers for polystyrene microtiter plates with round wells
Universal Sandwich covers for 6-lowwell plates (CR1506) allow culture volumes of 5-10 ml in MTPs with 6 round wells as e.g. available from Greiner and BD. These kind of plate-cover combination are only suitable for cultures with low oxygen demands (e.g. eukaryotic cell cultures) and do not permit shaking faster than 60 rpm.
Sandwich covers for 24-lowwell plates from Corning (CR1524) allow culture volumes of 0.75-1.5 ml, and are applicable for microbial cultures, but are also especially suitable for eukaryotic cell cultures. Oxygen transfer rates of 20-40 mmol O
2/L/h may be readily attained (see
hydrodynamics, oxygen transfer rates). Even at relatively low shaking frequencies (as desired for cell cultures to reduce shear forces) 'sinking out' of the cells does not occur.
These sandwich covers for 24-lowwell plates are only compatible with the polystyrene plates supplied by
Corning . This company supplies plates with a broad range of different binding characteristics, ranging from ultra-low binding to high-binding.
Universal sandwich covers for 24-lowwell plates (CR1525) are similar to the
covers for deepwell plates, but i) are lower so that they also fit over a broad range of 24-lowwell MTPs (such as those from Greiner, Porvair, Perkin Elmer), and ii) have a 5 mm layer of soft massive (so not spongy) silicone with 1.2 mm holes. The silicone layer is (extremely) black so that this type of sandwich covers is also suitable for applications where the amount of light reflected from the cover should be minimal (if light reflection is measured)
Sandwich covers for 96-lowwell plates (CR1596) allow a culture volume of 0.1-0.2 ml and are most often used for bacterial mutant and construct libraries. Oxygen transfer rates of 30-40 mmol O
2/L/h can be attained at 300 rpm, but only at shaking amplitudes of 50 mm or more (see
hydrodynamics, oxygen transfer rates).
The standard sandwich covers for 96-lowwell plates are compatible with the polystyrene plates from a range of suppliers. The covers have 5 positioning pins that fit exactly in the spaces between the wells. Not all 96-lowwell MTPs have spaces between the wells. In the absence of these spaces, "Universal sandwich covers" should be used (see next paragraph).
Universal Sandwich covers for 96-lowwell plates (CR1597) fit over all lowwell MTPs (also these that do not have empty spaces between the wells, such as filtration plates, and square lowwell MTPs from Matrical). They have a 5 mm layer of soft massive (so not spongy) silicone with 0.8 mm holes The silicone layer is (extremely) black so that this type of sandwich covers is also suitable for applications where the amount of light reflected from the cover should be minimal (if light reflection is measured)
The cover clamps for lowwell plates (CR1800) allow the stacking of up to three 24-well plates or four 96 well plates (hence a maximum of 12 or 16 plates per full clamp). The cover clamp can be mounted on orbital shaking platforms from a range of suppliers.
On most shaking platforms, 4 clamps can be mounted in a row, so allowing the incubation of 48 of the 24-well sytems, or 64 of the 96-well systems.
Cover clamp with four positions (CR1800), for 12-16 polystyrene
lowwell plates
Cover clamps for lowwell plates with 2 positions (CR1600) are also available. They can accomodate 6-8 lowwell plates + covers
Cover clamps for 4 Presens SDR units (CR1802) are very similar to CR1800, but have pillars that are slightly more narrow at the bottom, so that they can be used in combination with the SDR units from Presens (which are slightly broader than MTPs). For more information on the Presens SDR units, see
www.presens.de/products/category/category/systems.html
Of course, this type of clamp can also be used in combination with our sandwich covers.
The clamps for Presens SDR units (CR1802 and CR1602) have more space
between the pillars near the groundplate
Cover clamps for 2 SDR units (CR1602) are also available.
